I typically listen to entrepreneurial and business podcasts on my commute to and from work. Now that COVID-19 has put a pause on commuting, I’ve been listening to them while doing the extra chores around the house that come along with the quarantine. Without further ado, here are my 5 favorite business podcasts for entrepreneurs – with a few bonus ones at the end, too!
1. Life with Amy and Jordan
Let me start by saying that Amy and Jordan are the most wholesome people I’ve found on the internet. It’s honestly creepy how much I know about them.
They share general life tips – anything from being a newlywed couple to financial tips to relationship advice. Steven loves hearing tidbits from their podcast, which is always a pro in my book.
Here are random things I know about Amy and Jordan, just from listening to their podcast and following them on Instagram. They…
- …started dating in high school, got married at 21, and started their careers as 4th and 5th grade teachers (AT THE SAME SCHOOL), turned wedding photographers and photography educators
- …love red wine and Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter
- …follow Dave Ramsey’s financial advice
- …have a 2-year-old son, Beckett, and a new daughter Emily
I hope to meet these awesome role models in person one day, but for now – the podcast will do!
2. How I Built This
One last thing from Amy & Jordan: in their courses, they’re constantly talking about how important it is for photographers to get inspiration from outside of “Photographyland,” aka other photographers. The How I Built This podcast is how I do this!
This podcast is published by NPR, and they interview a huge variety of company founders. You learn about how big brands get started, and the trials they went through to get there. You learn that at one point in time, these big shots were in your (figurative) shoes. Everyone’s got to start somewhere!
However, I’d like to provide a disclaimer: A disproportionate amount of guests on these shows got their MBAs from Harvard, but not everyone! One of my recent favorite episodes was for Dippin’ Dots with Curt Jones. He has a great story!
3. Building a Story Brand
Donald Miller’s How to Build a Story Brand book was a serious game changer for me. When you listen to the stuff he says, you think to yourself, “wait, that’s so obvious – why wasn’t I doing this already?!”
His podcast is a fantastic supplement to his book (also with the same title) that gives you a repeatable framework for crafting your mission and messaging. I listen to his podcast less frequently, maybe once a month or so. But every time I tune in, he reminds me that noise is the enemy and that marketing should be easy!
4. Brands that Book Show
Brands That Book is hosted by Davey Jones, who is half of Davey & Krista! They’re brand strategists and web designers that help you build a brand that books. Additionally, they’re also another husband and wife duo – you know I love ’em!
Davey does a great job bringing in a variety of guests and covering a variety of topics. He bounces between guest interviews, how-tos, and dos and don’ts. I always can always trust that I’ll learn something new from each episode.
5. Amy Porterfield
You know I couldn’t end this list without mentioning the queen herself, Amy Porterfield! I love listening to her teach because I know she built her empire from the ground up.
Even though she gears her content towards digital course creators, I find that her marketing tips apply to anyone in service based industries as well. Her podcast is a great place to cross pollinate and find new marketing ideas that might not be widely used in your industry.
On her website (linked above), she has even bundled episodes for you to listen to so that you don’t have to scroll through her awesomely huge library of content.
Bonus: Six Figure Photography
If you’re a photographer, I have a bonus one, just for you! Ben Hartley is the host of the Six Figure Photography Podcast, and man do I love this podcast. I really feel like Ben cares about everyone – seriously, everyone – that listens to his podcast. He wants each and every one of us to have an abundant business, and it shows!
He does a fantastic job of interviewing guests in all of the different photography disciplines, despite being a wedding photographer himself. If you’re a photographer, you have to add this to your list.
Bonus 2: Elena Out Loud
Although Elena’s isn’t a business podcast, it is an excellent slice-of-life podcast! You’ve already gotten an inside look into her podcast – she’s the one featured in these photos. 😁
Elena shares her own stories, thoughts, and interviews other #BossLadies. I love breaking my usual business podcast routine with hers, because not everything is about business. Give her a listen if you’re looking for something real and refreshing!
Alright folks, that’s all I have for you today! If you have any podcasts for entrepreneurs that you’d like to share, I’m all ears. Leave them in the comments below!
Until next time,
Emily
