As an educator, searching “brand photography inspiration” will usually show you the same things over and over again: laptops, sticky notes, and coffee mugs.
While those are likely things you use in your daily business…they are definitely OVERUSED in brand photos! I’m not saying that you should avoid them entirely, but brainstorm how can you bring unique props and creative motifs into YOUR brand photos?
That’s exactly what Kiera from Frame of Life Project and I did for her educator branding photos!
Kiera helps you organize your images and finally put together that family photo album. She also helps business owners, especially photographers, organize your photos + files in a search engine friendly way so that they’re easy to find. (Where has she been all my life?)
Props for educator branding photos
She has a course all about systems and ideas for storing your photos. For course creators and educators, a lot of your intellectual property and assets are digital. I always recommend printing these when you can! Things like:
- workbooks and worksheets
- PDFs
- Spreadsheets
- Canva files
- Templates
And any other digital product can be printed. Even if you don’t have a workbook fully built out yet, just print the cover with a couple of pages, or even with blank pages inside. Nobody’s gonna know, but it looks fabulous in photos 😉
Luckily, because Kiera teaches photo organization and preservation, we also had a LOT of other props to pull from! I had her bring her actual photos, old albums, tools that she uses for photo preservation, and more.
Brand photo ideas for educators
I have a general starting list of photos to capture for every brand. Basically, the “starter shots.” With those, I build up my shot list and ideas based on what the person does. As educators and course creators, detail shots are really important. Detailed shots are basically styled stock photos — aka, any photo WITHOUT your face in them!
These are important for filling out a website, incorporating into slide decks, webinar presentations, workbooks, and so much more. They also help break up your social feeds aesthetically so you don’t have to plaster your face everywhere.
