Quick tips for posing senior guys

< back to blog home

It’s not as hard as you think it is, I promise! If you’re used to working with ladies all the time, it can be a challenge. Here are a few quick tips I have on working with senior guys for portraits, high school or college!

  1. Have them bring a friend or significant other. Ryan brought his friend Aubrey, and she was able to get all kinds of laughs out of him!
  2. Use the environment. SJSU has a beautiful (yet very small) campus, with tons of scenery and architecture to fill the frame. For guys, I like to bring more of the environment into the image rather than tight portraits.
  3. Talk to him! The more you get to know each other, the more comfortable he’ll be during the shoot. Ask about his major, his time on campus, what he plans on doing after college, etc.
  4. Incorporate activities. If he plays sports or an instrument, have him bring props to the shoot! This makes it really easy to get natural action shots.
